WDCR AM 1340 - Celebrating 50 Years!
Dartmouth Broadcasting began in the 1920's with the ambitions of a few Dartmouth College students that decided to give a new technology called 'radio' a try. The first broadcast occurred over copper wires linked in all the dorms. The station used the call letters WDBS [Dartmouth Broadcasting System].
The name changed to WDCR [Dartmouth College Radio] when it became an officially licensed station of the Federal Communications Commission and its first official broadcast at 1340 AM was March 4th, 1958. Over the years, WDCR has broadcast a wide variety of music, news, and sports. At different times, WDCR has been primarily a talk, Top 40, or alternative rock station.
Currently, WDCR is a multi-faceted station that features a classic rock format during the day while a wide variety of student shows take over every evening. In addition, WDCR features broadcasts of baseball, men's basketball, and women's hockey. It is also home to the Dartmouth Election Network.
On March 4, 2008, WDCR will celebrate 50 years of radio in the Upper Valley. Visit our 50th Anniversary page for the latest information on the celebration.
